Meet Jim Siemens
N.C. Board Certified Family Law Specialist
Insight Divorce Coach Founder
I'm a Board Certified Family Law Specialist and Family Financial Mediator practicing in North Carolina for over 30 years. My experience guiding people through divorce, including cases involving complicated finances, business valuations, and contested custody, has taught me that preparation and mindset matter as much as legal strategy. As a coach, I serve as an active listener who takes the time to understand what truly matters to you. My goal is to help you move through this process with clarity and confidence.
My life’s purpose is to help people in hard places find ease. That’s what drives my legal work, and it’s why I built Insight Divorce Coach and the Divorce First Aid Toolkit. I've trained under the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI), Shirzad Chamine, and Dr. Barbara Fredrickson at UNC Chapel Hill, and I'm happy to always learn and grow in this work.
I've practiced divorce law in Western North Carolina since 1994. I'm drawn to confronting hard facts directly, for my clients' benefit, and I've been fortunate to have that work recognized by peers and clients alike. My results at trial and on appeal speak for themselves. Visit Siemens Family Law Group for more on my legal practice.
I've lived in Winnipeg, Toronto, Buffalo, Chapel Hill, London, New Orleans, Eugene, and now Asheville. I hold degrees from UNC Chapel Hill and Tulane University Law School, and I'm certified as a family law specialist by the North Carolina State Bar and as a family law mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission.
I live in Asheville with my wife, my teenage daughter, and our black lab, Porter. When I'm not working, there's a good chance you'll find me on a bike (road, mountain, or gravel). I'm grateful for my life and the people in it, and a big part of why I do this work is that I want to help you get to a place where you can feel that same way about yours.
Start Your Divorce Preparation Here
I took what I learned in over 30 years of family law and created a resource that educates you not only on the processes of divorce but also on the mental and emotional shifts that come with it. The Divorce First Aid Toolkit is a 12-lesson, self-paced course covering everything from breaking the news to protecting your finances to finding the right legal team. It's built for anyone navigating divorce, including people who haven't decided yet whether divorce is the right path.
Taking this course doesn't commit you to filing for divorce. It's a place to think clearly and equip yourself with the knowledge to make a decision that’s right for you.
